    Hi Lynn,
I always enjoy your podcasts! Rearly do I get to watch it live but on the weekend there is time for that. On this last podcast about tribalism, I wanted to ask you if you can coment or expand on the following:
We just finished our YWAM Germany Gathering in the castle in Hurlach and on of the phrases that was repeated very often was “We (YWAM) are a tribe!” Or we would pray particulary for the tribe of YWAM. What are your thoughts on this?
    Blessings,

    Hi Lynn,
greetings from the castle in Hurlach, Germany! I wrote here some days ago but it seems like you have not received it.
I was wondering if you can comment on the following: Last weekend we just finished our YWAM Germany Gathering here at the Castle. One of the often-used phrases was “We (YWAM) are a tribe” Or we pray for our tribe. Our tribe has its own DNA… Etc. Etc.
In the light of what you have been sharing about tribalism, what implications does this has for us?
Thank you so much for all your posts. I love watching them although seldom I get to watch it live!

Sorry for the long delay in getting to this, Sokol. And thanks for watching and commenting. That word “tribal” has different definitions or applications. Clearly, the tribes of Israel functioned in a complementary way when they were healthy, but they also degenerated into warfare against one another. If we use that term, we should be clear about how we are defining it. The negative angle that I used came from a mature man of God with roots in West Africa. He stated some quite negative aspects of tribal thinking:

      1. When under any threat the tribe “closes ranks and defends itself without considering what is true and right by Biblical standards’
      2. People outside the tribe are viewed with suspicion because the are almost certainly enemies.
      3. Therefore you don’t make friends outside the tribe.
      4. Any tribal member who has outside friends is not to be trusted.

There were one or two other points, but I can’t recall them just now.

      Thanks again, Sokol!
