This prophecy from Tom Bloomer in 2020 is aimed at YWAM, but clearly applies to the Church globally. Jesus uses the idea of pruning in John 15 and it is vital in every era. We, YWAM and the Church more widely, are experiencing pruning now and the season for it has not yet come to its end. As my wife, Marti, and I have prayed, we have been reminded that we are not to do the pruning. The Lord does that. But we often are called upon to clean up the vineyard after pruning.
YWAM 60th 2020 – A Time to Die
This is the original title, based on John 12.24: we are praying for more fruit, that is our deep desire. But there are conditions for bearing more fruit, and one of them is dying.
Another is pruning, to change the image – any experienced gardener will confirm that correct pruning is the key to bearing much fruit – and pruning is also the only regular maintenance needed for mature plants.
YWAM is mature, at 60, and we have also been in a season of rapid growth – actually, wild and unchecked growth. The factor that concerns me is the number of small ministries and tiny bases that are not bearing much fruit.
They should be pruned.
For example, I know personally one committed, lovable couple who have been trying to pioneer a base in a European country for several years now, with no staff. They have teenage children, work outside jobs due to inadequate support, and have tried to run DTS’s with 2-3-4 students. They have 2 apartments for the ministry, which has worked until now because they house DTS outreach teams targeting their big city and that’s how they have paid the rent.
But that phase is over . . . and not just for a few weeks. The world has turned . . . and will never again be the way that it was. We have not been this way before.
The other worrying trend is small teams, sometimes only a couple, going out to pioneer YWAM in some place. Sometimes they have children, and/or one of them has to work at least half-time. They proclaim that they are pioneering YWAM, but in too many cases it’s not working. There is no fruit.
Both of these trends are failing because they are trying to operate outside of our anointing: YWAM is teams. Not a couple. A couple all alone in a city cannot be YWAM, by definition. Apparently each of these couples has been “released” by a YWAM leader somewhere; but letting people do what they want to is not leadership. It is irresponsible.
All these so-called ministries should be pruned. The people should be recalled to join growing ministries and bases, or released to begin the long and difficult preparation to be influential in the spheres.
Most YWAMers are not qualified to have an influence in a sphere: they have nothing to say. A symptom of this lack of preparation is the unprofessional manner that many betray when they try to sign up on LinkedIn.
In September 2019 I gave a word at our big (for Switzerland) charismatic conference, to the effect that a wave of judgment would soon sweep the world; and that this time, Switzerland would not be spared (as it was in 1914-18 and 1939-45). This word was well received, and I was able to lead in a time of prayer for 90 minutes afterward, consisting entirely of confessing the sins of the nation. I shared this word with the leaders of YWAM in francophone Switzerland a few weeks later, and it was well received by that group also.
What I did not see, nor ever imagined, was that the coming economic judgment would be precipitated by a worldwide pandemic. So, YWAM is now being pruned: conferences, schools, outreaches, everything. It is not a selective pruning of our choice, it is massive, universal, blunt-force pruning.
My conclusion, and hope, is that we would not resist the pruning. We need to be ready to let ministries and bases die, and not try to keep them on life support. The severe pruning has already begun; but if we collaborate with the Master Gardener we will enter into a season where we are smaller and more nimble, but able to bear much more fruit. One hundred-fold.
Since the whole Church, and our nations, are also being severely pruned, wide doors of ministry will open up rapidly. The potential in this new season is mind-blowing.
We need to be praying, and acting, to see that our Redeemer will do what He does best. We know that our Redeemer lives.

I was made aware, recently, of a prophecy that came to Great Britain from Dale Gentry. The following word has made a great impact in recent weeks because it clearly seems to refer to the move of God among youth that is happening now. This prophetic word has inspired more prayer, often with fasting, than I have seen in decades. Please add your prayers to the volume of faithful intercession for God to fulfil His word now!
May 91 – a man called Dale Gentry from the States came over to England and gave this country a very significant prophecy all about a move of God that would be happening amongst young people, that this country has never seen before. It was a prophecy based on the parable of the workers in a vineyard in Matthew 20 (read it first!) and went like this:
” I saw in my spirit an army of 11th hour workers about to break forth in Great Britain. These will be individuals who have not borne the heat of the day, nor the burden of the day. They did not come to work at 6 o’clock in the morning, they have not been bearing the responsibility as long as many of you. They have not even been to work at 10 o’clock in the morning or at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. On the horizon is coming individuals who are arriving at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. They will be known as 11th hour workers. They have not borne the heat of the day, they have not pioneered, they have not sweated, they have not toiled, they have not sacrificed. And many of you when it begins to happen will be like those in Matt 20, you will murmur and you will complain, and you will say ‘How can this be? We have made commitments, we have sacrificed over the years, we have toiled, we have laboured, given of our finances. How in the world can it be that this group comes on the scene at the final hour and God will remind you – Have I not been good to you? Have I not treated you as my sons and daughters? Have I not blessed you, prospered you, made you to be a success? And you will have to answer ‘yes’. And God will say to you, do not despise the work of my hands because I am God and I will do it in anyway that I want to.’
And so the Lord has declared concerning this group that the last shall be first and the first will be last. And so I see in my spirit a phenomena happening – I see an army of 11th hour workers coming from the North, South, East and West, all over great Britain I see them coming and they’re between the ages of 14 and 24 and God is going to pour his spirit out on this Nation in a gigantic measure and its going to be through the youth of this nation, particularly those from the ages of 14 through to 24. I see them coming as a mighty army.
I see a spark and then a flame and then I see a burning fire that will not leave one geographical area of Great Britain untouched. And out of the fire will come a consuming fire that will literally consume the youth of this Nation. Many of them will be called to preach, many of them will be called to evangelism, many of them will be called by the Holy Spirit to missionary work, many of them will be called to deliverance ministries, many of them will be called to heal the sick and perform great miracles. These young people will have a mark on them and it will be a mark of boldness. This will be a radical group of 11th hour workers who will not fear man or devil or beast and there will be a spirit of fearlessness upon them and they will be consumed with a commitment to the Lord Jesus and their very last breath will breathe the word of God. Young people will be so consumed with the Great Commission and preaching the Gospel that it will radically change the entire church thinking in this Nation – there will not only be church on a Sunday but every night of the week.
These young people are going to be radical in spirit but they are going to be young people with a high moral character, with integrity, young people who believe in discipline. It’s going to be a different scene to what we’ve ever seen before-radical in spirit and yet conservative in many other areas. They are going to be committed to a cause. These 11th hour workers will have mentors, mother and father figures who will teach and train them in the morning and then at night see them released to do the work of the ministry. The mentors will sit to the side and watch. And many men and women who were at the forefront and high profile in the 70s and 80s will sit over to the side and watch young people burn and be consumed with a fire to minister to this world. I see it spreading across the land, I see young people with a flame or a torch in their hand, musicians, singers, evangelists, going in groups to other cities and geographical locations and the flame beginning to burn there until there is a fire burning all over this Nation.
We are about to embark upon a new season. England is going to be a launching pad for world mission, for world harvest. Rockets will be launched to all over this world so that every one can be reached with the gospel. God is raising up an army of 11th hour workers, consumed with Jesus, doing great exploits for God, signs, wonders, miracles and they will burn for God. Many will leave jobs, homes and education to go and preach the gospel. God is saving the best till last, He is about to make His final move, Joel warned us and then Peter (Acts 2 v17-18), why should we be surprised? God is going to show himself as He really is.
